The 14th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2023 (Summer Davos Forum) kicks off in Tianjin on June 27. 

At the forum, Ren Minghui, the former assistant director-general for universal health coverage, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO), told National Business Daily (NBD) that the future development of AI technology in the healthcare system must take into account communities and individuals.

When asked by NBD about how to use AI technology to bring medical resources into communities and households, Ren Minghui said that AI itself is a technology that can be applied in multiple industries, and the key depends on how governments, hospitals, and enterprises use it."Currently, hospitals account for a very large proportion of medical resources in the entire healthcare system, but more than 90% of health problems occur in communities. From this perspective, I believe that the future development of AI technology in the healthcare system must take into account communities and individuals." he said.However, there is a key issue in the process of AI-assisted medical care entering communities and households. Ren Minghui explained to reporters, "This is also the issue we just mentioned, that is, whether there is funding for this deployment? A corresponding policy should be formulated to promote the development of AI technology in the community medical system.""Why can hospitals promote AI-assisted medical care faster? Because there are companies behind the hospitals, and the government also has corresponding medical insurance systems. But if we go further down, we need to consider the issues of communities and households." Ren Minghui said. "A successful AI is useless if it only works in hospitals. The biggest market is still in communities and households."
