Beijing Borgward has applied to cancel its production qualification, and multiple models will be discontinued by the end of the year.

Starting from the date of the announcement, Beijing Borgward will stop relevant production, and multiple models will stop relevant sales from December 31, 2023. Some models will stop sales from November 1, 2023.

It is worth mentioning that there were previous reports that Xiaomi"s car project would take over Beijing Borgward"s production qualification. With the cancellation of Beijing Borgward"s production qualification application, there is now concern about whether Xiaomi"s car project can be put into mass production. National Business Daily (NBD) have sought confirmation from Xiaomi, but have not received a response as of the time of publication.

In fact, as early as August 2022, Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, stated at the annual speech conference that "Xiaomi Group will not deny or introduce any new developments of Xiaomi"s car project in the next two years, and will disclose regularly at the appropriate time."

It is reported that in May of this year, Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, stated that Xiaomi"s car project is progressing smoothly and has entered the accelerated research and development stage. Summer and winter testing will be conducted respectively this year.

Previously, Xiaomi announced that it would invest $10 billion in car manufacturing over the next 10 years. According to the plan, Xiaomi"s car project will officially launch in the first half of 2024.
